A 10-year-old boy, Emmanuel Odili and two others, Beatrice Nwachukwu and Antonio Abba from Imo and Kano States, respectively have been reported dead at the premises of Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries.
The young lad who had come with his mother for prayers, reportedly drowned inside a dredged pit within the church’s premises.
The remains of the boy was later discovered floating in the pit by members of the church the following morning after he was declared missing by his family on Friday.
His body was quickly evacuated and deposited at the mortuary.
It was also gathered that the Church claimed that the boy had mental problems.
But his parents say the deceased was mentally sound, stressing that he came to see his mother who had come for prayers at the church.
Also, a woman, Beatrice Nwachukwu from Imo State and a man identified as Antonio Abba from Kano State also slumped and allegedly died during prayers in the church at the weekend.
Husband to the deceased woman, Mr. Nwachukwu lamented that his wife was very strong before she left home.
The Church’s Public Relations Officer, Godday Emiko denied the report in a text message.
“Sorry, I saw missed calls, there is nothing like that”, he said.
Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the report saying, “the information actually is that one drowned, two died in the church. That is the information available to me at the moment.”
