18-year-old appears in court for alleged Nokia cell phone theft

An 18-year-old student, Omoja ThankGod, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a Nokia cell phone valued at N8,000.ImageFile: Nokia 6600

The defendant, who is standing trial on a count charge, denied committing the offence.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Hasiyat Yakubu of Saburi village, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Feb. 25.

Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that she went to visit her brother at Karmo, used their bathroom and forgot her Nokia cell phone valued at N8, 000.

The prosecutor said during police investigation it was discovered that only the defendant entered the said bathroom after the complainant used it.

Dalhatu also said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, adding that he is a person of good behavior.

Counsel to the defendant, Cynthia Nnamdi applied for his bail, and assured the court that the defendant would not jump bail.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N10, 000 and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till March 16 for further hearing.
