Popular American singer, Beyonce Knowles-Carter has charged black communities to vote in the forthcoming US elections as if their lives depend on it.
In her speech at the 2020 BET Awards on Sunday, the music star, who received an honour for her humanitarian works, said blacks need to take action to end “racist and unequal system”.
“Your voices are being heard and you’re proving to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain,” she said in the pre-recorded acceptance speech.
“Now we have one more thing we need to do to walk in our true power and that is to vote. I’m encouraging you to continue to take action. Continue to change and dismantle the racist and unequal system. We have to vote like our life depends on it, because it does.”
Beyonce dedicated the award to all Black Lives Matter activists, adding that such honour was indicative that her effort was being appreciated.
“You’re proving to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain,” she added.
TheNewsGuru recalls that Michelle Obama, former US first lady, who presented the award to her, applauded the singer’s feat towards ending racial inequality against blacks.
“You can see it in everything she does, from her music that gives voice to black joy and black pain, to her activism that demands justice for black lives,” she said.
“And she’s doing it all while staying devoted to her children and the loved ones she holds dear. To my girl, I just want to say – you inspire me. You inspire all of us.”
Beyonce recently released ‘Black Parade’, a song which addressed inequalities against blacks.
