Nigerians have an obsession with celebrities on social media. These celebrities however fail to put the obsession in proper perspective, making the fans put them under pressure to maintain a particular lifestyle.
Grace Amah, belongs to the league of old generation Nollywood actresses who have made their mark in Nollywood. However, she isn’t pleased with how celebrities act on social media.
Amah lamented over how celebrities struggle to outshine one another on social media.
Speaking as a guest on Your View, a popular talk-show, she said: “We are celebrities and we are popular faces. If you come from the abroad and say you like me, I won’t listen to you, because I feel you want to come and ‘mark register’.
“I believe in passing the right message to the up and coming ones. I get scared about the whole thing going on on social media. Sometimes I sit back and ask myself is it this same work that we are doing or is it different? I ask myself these questions because of the way my colleagues go about this social media thing. There is so much competition on social media and we want to outshine each other.
Speaking further , she emphasized on the need for celebrities to pass the right message to the young ones.
“Sometimes it is not good to pass on the wrong message especially to the younger ones. There are people these so called ‘Small girl with big God’ are owing even as low as 5,000”.
