A cross section of Nigerians on social media platforms have slammed Ayo ‘AY’ Makun, Nigerian comedian, for defending Funke Akindele, Nollywood actress, who violated the Lagos state’s lockdown directives.
TheNewsGuru recalls that Akindele and Abdulrasheed Bello, her husband, were on Monday sentenced to 14-day community service each for going against social distance measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
This was after they were arrested on Sunday, hours after they threw a house party to celebrate Bello’s birthday.
The development had generated heated arguments on social media, with many Nigerians airing their different views on the matter.
Makun had taken to his Twitter page to tackle those who “were in support” of Akindele’s arrest but continue to keep quiet while “their oppressors” have a field day in government.
His comment had sparked mixed reactions, with many Nigerians throwing a lot of hostility at him for defending the film star even when she went against the law.
A Twitter user, Fisayo also rebuked the comedian, describing him as a “bloody hypocrite”.
“The countless oppressors in govt are the ones who buy “table for 1million” at your shows & you never once called them out. All you do is some dry jokes in sutana, spit into microphones & kiss their asses. You are a bloody hypocrite ni e, Ayo Makun. Twat,” he wrote.
