Our society puts too much pressure on women- Shade Ladipo
Media personality, Shade Ladipo has lamented over the different kind of pressures the society puts on women. The outspoken TV presenter noted that women face a lot of pressure in different aspects of their lives.
Speaking in a chat with Ndani TV, she said: ”A lot of women face a lot of pressure in different aspects of their lives. Right from when they grow up, women are taught to clean and cook by parents. Your mother will tell you, not to speak to a man or go near a man. Then when you have finished your university education, they ask you ‘where is the man’? Then the society tells women how to dress, how to look, what to wear, what not to wear” etc.
Ladipo also added that single women in Lagos find it difficult to rent their own apartments.
“For a long time living alone as a single woman means you are a prostitute. Single women still find it difficult to rent apartment on their own. They will rather rent to a married couple. It is saner to be a man in some climate than in this climate. You may have the cure to cancer in our society, but if you are not married, you are a nobody. The pressure we put on women just never ends. That is why it’s important to for us to encourage women to tell their stories”
