Without any shred of doubt, budding actress Damilola Adegbola is a role interpreter who is immensely talented. Many would remember her for the brilliant role she played in the movie, ‘Ewo Nife’.
In this interview with TheNewsGuru, Adegbola talks about her passion for acting, the infusion of porn in Nollywood movies, amongst other issues.
What was your childhood like?
My childhood was fun with my peers. I have always loved acting as a young girl. You know the mummy and daddy roles we play as kids.
How did your acting journey begin?
I started acting professionally in the year 2010.A friend introduced me to Taiwo Oduala. I was with him for a while. I featured in some projects while I was with him. Then I proceeded to join the Yoruba caucus by registering with Adebayo Tijani. I produced my own movie( Ewo Nife) in the year 2017, which was directed by Adebayo Tijani.
What role do you look forward to playing?
I look forward to playing the role of a hardened criminal. I am yet to explore that side of me.
What has being in the limelight robbed you of?
You know, I can’t do somethings anymore. I saw a cloth that was hung at a shop and being who I am, I wanted to go get the cloth and the next thing I heard was “Is that not the lady in the film I watched recently”?
The same thing happened at idumota. I feel uncomfortable going out without a car because of unnecessary drama. I let somethings go because the other person does not have anything to lose.
I also have to be mindful of what I wear, how I look and which could be tiring sometimes. People expect so much from me all the time.
Who inspires you in Nollywood?
I would go for Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Funke Akindele. They are great women.
What makes you cry?
I cry when I feel used, cheated on, taken for granted, and of course when is lose a loved one.
What would you say about the injection of porn into Nollywood movies?
I don’t think it is right. Apart from the fact that we are actors, we are Africans too and we have a culture which we hold dearly. It is better to leave the whites to do their thing while we do ours. We can still drive home our points without porn.
