Nigerian songstress, Seyi Shay is not one diva who complains about her flaws, blunders and mistakes. The talented entertainer prefers to wear them like a badge.
In a new gripping mini-documentary, the singer addressed her disreputable 2016 television blunder when she mistakenly stated that the acronym “EP” (which originally means Extended Play) stood for “Electric Package”.
In addition she also spoke about falling on stage during her AFRIMA 2017 performance.
“Me falling on stage was very crazy. I was just feeling my performance and trying to give my best. When things like that happen you can take it as a blessing or as a curse if you like. It hurt when people had bad things to say. Falling on stage, making TV blunders, you see these things on social media every day. It becomes painful if you are the one at the receiving end of the insults. Some people used my fall as their entertainment, it was very painful”.
Reacting to her infamous blunder on TV, she said:”I wasn’t thinking about the question and also was not thinking about the answer. I was just being playful”.
When asked about speculations making the rounds about her being a drug addict, she said: ”It is a price that we as celebrities have to pay. Most people believe all musicians do drugs. It is not a good thing to be subjected to such harsh accusations or speculation. The only way to kill rumours like that is to be successful and work hard so as to be a good example. I have never desired to appear perfect; my celebrity status doesn’t change me. I am human. I have learnt that the seed of growth is found in the pond of mistakes”. I wear my mistakes like a badge because they contributed largely to the process that turned me into an actual Electric Package”.
‘Electric Package is the title of Seyi Shay’s 6-track EP inspired by her infamous TV blunder.
