Augustine Miles Kelechi a.k.a Tekno reigned supreme last year releasing acclaimed hit songs like Pana, Wash,Diana and lot’s more. Though the artiste was disqualified from participating in The Headies after his earlier nomination, he compensated for that by winning some of the major awards at Soundcity MVP awards 2016 that took place on December 29 2016.
Even Billboard magazine couldn’t resist his magic, the magazine wrote a glowing appraisal on him.
According to their article:”Tekno already has a number of hits in Nigeria, and Columbia Records took note, throwing its weight behind this agile, elastic-voiced singer. Tekno’s “Pana,” which has already accumulated more than 13 million views on YouTube and inspired a minor version of a video challenge, is romantic and light on its feet with little more than a nagging guitar line and squirts of bass, everything pegged to a serpentine forward march. There’s clearly a demand in the mainstream for feathery dance cuts like this one: close your eyes and imagine a smart radio programmer cueing this up after Drake‘s “Too Good.”
In a competitive music industry like ours, being talented is not enough. You have to combine your talent with humility, innovation and a good attitude. Will the Pana crooner be able to sustain his success? Tekno is enjoying this level of attention because he is blessed with hit songs. Will he still be relevant even without these hit songs?
Tekno cannot go far if he rests on his oars and becomes too comfortable with his achievements. The likes of Wizkid and Olamide are still relevant because they keep reinventing their music whenever we think they have thrown in the towel.
People screaming your name or your songs when you are on stage is not the true test of a great artiste. The true test of a great artiste is when your music reverberates beyond your stage performances.
