Lagos Government has conducted a survey on Twitter to determine if the lockdown would be restored in the state.
TheNewsGuru recalls that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of the state had recently threatened to revert to full lockdown if there is no progress in adherence to the public health guidelines.
On Tuesday, the Lagos government took to its official Twitter handle to ask inhabitants of the state if they think another lockdown should be imposed based on the defiance of health measures.
“Considering the level of compliance with government’s directives on limiting the spread of Covid-19 in a Lagos State, should the State Government impose another lockdown or not?” it asked.
Tagging the governor and his deputy, the state’s ministry of health and commissioner for health, the survey included the options: ‘Lockdown’, ‘Don’t Lockdown’, and ‘Neutral’.
The survey, which is expected to end on Friday, sees 49 percent of Lagosians requesting for ‘Lockdown’ while 39 percent would go for the ‘Dont Lockdown’, as of the time this report was filed.
With Lagos being the epicentre of the COVID-19 outbreak in Nigeria, the country has so far reported 4,961 confirmed cases of the disease alongside 164 deaths and 1,070 recoveries.
“Despite massive advocacy, it is disappointing to see the crowd at banks & markets across the state flouting the guidelines,” Sanwo-Olu had said in a tweet.
“We will be forced to take the painful decision of bringing the state under lockdown if it remains clear that Lagosians are determined to flout the rules.
“We will not hesitate to review the terms of easing the lockdown if we do not see an improvement in the adherence to our public health guidelines over the next couple of days.”
