The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta, will on Saturday, graduate 1,122 students, the Principal of the institute, Prof. Sunny Iyuke, has said.
Iyuke who disclosed this to newsmen in Warri on Tuesday, said that the students would graduate as technologists and technicians.
He said the graduands would be awarded Higher National Diploma (HND), National Diploma (ND) and PTI General Certificates in various disciplines.
“Out of the total number, 55 students have Distinction while 342 have Upper Credit.
“Since inception of the institute, it has graduated over 48,000 technologists and technicians in different disciplines.
“It has also produced 65 per cent of the technical manpower in the oil and gas sector,” he said.
The principal said that the management of the institute was determined to rewrite its history and make it an institution to be reckoned with globally, and to take its place of pride among the oil and gas training institutions.
According to him, the institute is developing a new education model in the development of manpower to enable its students adapt to the current global economic trend.
Iyuke said that the institute was also collaborating with foreign institutions to exchange ideas.
“PTI is collaborating with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Calgary, Canada. By the time the collaboration is sealed, our students will have the opportunity to travel to Canada for internship.
“PTI is also collaborating with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in research and development in industrial needs and talent management,” he said.
On the institution’s achievement, the principal said that the first set of its Post-HND students would graduate in 2020.
He added that the post-HND programme was run in collaboration with the University of Port Harcourt.
“To be more responsive to the dynamics of the industry, PTI has introduced the “International Professional Certificate (IPC), in tandem with global best practices.
“About 90 staff of PTI have been trained and certified as ISO 9001:2015 Implementation and Documentation Instructors,” he added.
