President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) be recomposed and inaugurated after the forensic audit of the organization.
This was contained in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Femi Adesina.
Recall that after the Senate had scheduled and screened the president’s nominees on same day, the Minister of Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio had inaugurated an interim Committee to run the affairs of the NDDC.
In the statement, Buhari also directed that the Interim Management Team of the NDDC shall be in place till the forensic is completed, and that the supervision of the Commission shall remain under the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
This development has silenced any opposition to the interim Committee set up by Akpabio without a time frame though the Act establishing the commission does not recognise any interim arrangement.
Also, those nominated may have to wait endlessly as the Committee is expected to conduct a forensic audit spanning 18years of the commission.
