Members of the Urhobo Renaissance Movement (URM) have expressed sadness over the demise of Senator (Chief) David Omueya Dafinone (DOD), a prominent son of Urhoboland, a national figure and a man of international stature, integrity, and repute.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports the movement in a statement signed the Coordinator, Prof Hope Eghagha and Secretary, Lexzy Ochibejivwie, described Dafinone as one of those few men in the country who could be said to have made his mark and wealth as a result of hard work and a profound vision.

Born into the Dafinone family of Okpe in Sapele Local Government area of Delta State, DOD, as he was fondly called by close associates, took to the accounting profession after taking a degree in Economics.

He qualified as a Chartered accountant and in the years ahead and excelled as one of the foremost accountants in Nigeria.

From 1967 when he became involved in national affairs he carved out a niche for himself and made him a household name across the land.

In his lifetime he became a legend and deployed his resources to the betterment of both the Urhobo people and Nigeria as a whole.

In the 2nd republic he served as a Senator under the platform of NPN where he distinguished himself as a political force in the Senate.

“He was an exemplar of total service to the nation and family. He was a detribalized Nigerian who was at home anywhere in the world because of the important contacts he had made during his long and colourful career as an accountant,” the URM statement read.

Dafinone, who made the Guinness Book of records when it was announced to the world that all five sons of his were qualified chartered accountants, URM said lived a good, worthy, prosperous and long life.

“We therefore use this medium to express our deepest condolences and pray that God Almighty to comfort the family during this time and beyond.
