Ekiti United Head Coach, Olusegun Adelakun, on Thursday described his team’s 3-1 defeat of Abia Warriors FC in the Federation Cup as marvellous.
Adelakun told the Sports Journalist in Ado-Ekiti that he was delighted over the victory and determination exhibited by his players in the match.
He said that the boys played with all seriousness and strength throughout the match and during the penalty shootout.
“Personally, I am very happy with the performance of my boys.
“Before the match, I told them that they should not be intimidated by the experience of Abia Warriors, but should focus on the team’s formation.
“My team surprised me in the course of the match because of their level of confidence, accurate passes, good team work and the determination to win the match.
“It is a divine victory; I will describe the match as marvellous because it was like a fight between David and Goliath,’’ he said.
Adelakun also commended the heroics of the team’s goalkeeper, Wale Makanjuola, for saving three penalty kicks in the match.
He described the goalkeeper as the Man of the Match, saying he was “actually responsible for the team’s victory.”
TNG reports that the match, played on Wednesday at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, ended 1-1 in stoppage time, before the penalty shootout.
