The Command Day Secondary School, Ojo in Lagos was a beehive on the 27th and 28th of September 2019.
Old students of the 2004 set from virtually all works of life besieged the school premises. The conviviality of old schoolmates who were only torn apart by the vicissitude of life thrilled.
On that cheery Saturday a novelty match was organised by the 2004 old students. They beamed with smiles , dressed in glowing green jerseys ready to show off their football talents.
Before the anticipated march commenced, the students were gathered at the parade ground for assembly. The old students conducted the assembly like it used to be in their heydays, reliving old memories. They were robed in the uniform of the school. While some were dressed as senior students, other were clad as Junior students . There was a session where the old students gave a pep talk.
Moments later, everyone proceeded to the football pitch where the match took place between CDSS OjoAlumni 2004 set vs CDSS Ojo teachers /students . The match ended in a surprising draw.
On the 28th of September 2019, the old students organised a reunion ceremony. You did not need anyone to capture the atmosphere. It was that of old friends who had lost touch with one another for a long time. In their usual camaraderie as in the days of yore, they cheered and threw jives at one another, recalling old memories of yester years with nostalgia.
In attendance were teachers who taught them between 1998 to 2004 in attendance. The current command of the school, the Vice Principal academics, Vice Principal administration also graced the occasion.
In his speech, the head boy of the 2004 set, Moses Airende talked about the journey of 15 years, relived how the school impacted his life and also enjoined his fellow colleagues to endeavour to contribute meaningfully to the development of CDSS, Ojo.
The spokesman of the 2004 set, Alex Igene told TheNewsGuru:” The reunion was organized in order to honour our teachers and also create an atmosphere where we can network, celebrate and relive old memories”.
Nigerian comedian Baba Kay added spice to the event with his timely rib cracking jokes that ended in uproarious laughter.
The high-point of the reunion was when the teachers were honored. The smirks and smirks on their faces indicated that they felt happy being recognized for their invaluable contributions.
