Sunday Adefonou Anani, the Togolese cook who was alleged to have murdered his boss, Opeyemi Badamosi, the Chairman of Credit Switch Technology, was reported in the media to have died in police custody.
Though details of Anani’s death was scanty in the report making the rounds in the media, Anani’s counsel was quoted to have gotten a message on Wednesday morning that the suspect passed while in police custody.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for the Nigerian Prisons Service, Lagos Command, Rotimi Oladokun, while responding to enquiries on Wednesday on the subject matter, denied that the suspect is dead.
Speaking to a national daily [Not TheNewsGuru], Oladokun said “I have confirmed that he is in the prison and he is doing fine. There is nothing wrong with him,”
The suspect was remanded in prison custody by an Igbosere Magistrates’Court in Lagos, on November 12, and had adjourned till December 18, pending the issuance of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution DPP. .
The late suspect was charged with one count of murder, which was committed on October 31, 2018, at Badamosi’s resident at 3b, Onikoyi Lane, Parkview Estate Ikoyi, Lagos.
The charge stated that Anani, in order to rob, stabbed the deceased to death with a kitchen knife.
