Mr. Ademola Aderogba, the Director, Centre of Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition (CESA) in the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), on Sunday advised unemployed youths and undergraduates to embrace skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training.
Aderogba gave the advice on the sideline of the graduation ceremony of 50 unemployed trainees on intensive skills acquisition programme, organised by CESA.
He said that skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training could help the youth and undergraduates in re-integration and their aspiration for future.
The graduation which showcased the skills of the trainees and exhibition of products, featured many principal officers of the school.
CESA was established in 2010 and had graduated over 5,000 trainees.
According to the director, acquiring skills could help in time of recession.
Aderogba said the trainees that graduated were not students of the school.
“The graduates came from different part of the town; they were trained in various skills such as fashion design; make-up artistry; beads and wire works.
“Also, some learnt ankara accessories, plumbing, fisheries, performing arts, catering and photography.
“I advised the unemployed to learn a trade and be self-employed. This recession has made so many people go hungry but if we acquire a skill, we would survive.
“There are so many financial support agencies who can lend a helping hand to small scale business if one acquires a skill,’’ he said.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Ola Olateju, the Deputy Rector, Administration, also advised people to be their own boss.
“Many school graduates are still waiting to get white collar jobs but the reality is that every one cannot be employed by corporate organisations.
“Acquire a skill while waiting, so that you can meet up with financial responsibilities,’’ said Olateju.
LASPOTECH undergraduates were also taught entrepreneurship and skill acquisition as a compulsory course.
