President-General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Olorgun Moses Taiga has commended the peaceful disposition of voters and contestants during the election of the new executives for the union’s youth wing.
Taiga advised the new executive of the youth wing to lead by example and see their victory as a call to service.
“For once after so many years, UPU is conducting an election of its youth’s wing.
“As you all know, in any election there must be complaints here and there. But we are going to accommodate everybody that is ready to work with us,” Taiga said.
In the election which was held yesterday, Mr. Nicholas Omoko emerged the new President-elect of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) youth wing.
The apex social cultural body of Urhobo nation conducted the election at its administrative building called Urhobo Cultural Hall in Okere, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.
The voting was conducted in the presence of the UPU Secretary, Mr Ese Owei, who represented the President-General of the Union, Mr Moses Taiga.
The winners of the other three positions contested for are Mr Jeferey Ovie (Deputy President), Mr Joseph Adjari (Secretary- General) and Solomon Okoh (Publicity Secretary).
In his acceptance speech, Omoko, the UPU (Youth Wing) President, commended the electoral committee for the successful conduct of the election.
Omoko also thanked the monarchs in the Urhobo nation for giving them the opportunity to contribute their quotas to the development of the kingdom.
“We are going to work with the parent body to ensure that the Urhobo language is studied in our higher institutions.
“We have discovered that the Urhobo language is going into extinction and we are not going to sit down and fold our arms.
“We are going to do all that we can to ensure that we revive the Urhobo language,” Omoko said.
