Ministerial List: Kwara group wants Buhari to review Saraki, Mohammed nominations
…insists Kwara North deserves a slot
A group under the aegis of Edu/Pategi Progressive Association in Abuja has demanded that President Muhamnadu Buhari reviews the nomination of Lai Mohammed and Senator Gbemisola Saraki in his ministerial list.
The group in a press briefing late Thursday evening insists that the North senatorial district of the state has suffered severe marginalisation in federal appointments since 1999.
Chairman of the group, Ahmed Dakaya who alongside other members briefed journalists said:
The governorship slot that we expected to be ceded to the Kwara North unconditionally at 2019 general election was taken away from the north and given to the central senatorial district which has produced governor for an interrupted 12 years.
“The southern district has also occupied same position for 8 years uninterruptedly but when it was the time of the northern senatorial district, the central played the game of ‘first class’ and ‘second class citizens’ and left kwara north with zero occupation which the central will be having for 20years.
“We want to say that although appointing a minister is a prerogative of the president, we believe justice, fairness and equity is what our president stands for. It is our believe that Mr President will look at this again.
The group further stressed that” since the coming of the current demicratic dispensation in 1999, only twice was a person made a minister from the northern part of our dear state which was in 1999 when Hajia Amina Ndalolo was made minister by President Olusegun Obasanjo and in 2007 Hon Ibrahim Bio waa appointed by President Umaru Yar’dua.
In their prayers the group appealed that Buhari should reconsider the nominations of the two shortlisted candidates from the state which does not have anyone from the northern zone of the state.
They demanded that the great anomalies perceived in terms of the spread of the appointment and employment be addressed such that it has Kwara north moving up from the dismal position of8percent to a very advantage percentage.
Adding that the “president can re-enact what happened in 2015 in Niger state when Ahmed Ibet was nominated and replaced by Bawa Bwari for equity, fairness and justice considering the zones that already had governor and deputy respectively.
