As the Nigerian Army Signals holds it’s 2019 West African Social Activities (WASA), the Commander Corps of Signals, Major General Mohammed Mohammed has assured commitment to make Signal Corps an interface to combat security challenges in the country in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General TY Buratai, which is “to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles”.
The Commander made this known during the occasion. The colorful event took place on Saturday 15 February 2020 at Signal Operational Command Parade Ground, Mile 2, Lagos. General Mohammed, also thanked the Chief of Army Staff for making Signal Corps an interface to combat security challenges in the country.
WASA is an age long event in the Nigerian Army dates back to the Allied Forces, World War 2. It was designed for officers and soldiers to celebrate with their families and friends and thank God for an eventful year because victory is from God alone.
Nigerian Army Signals (WASA) 2019 includes; performances and displays by various cultural dance groups, thug of war, presentation of awards to deserving soldiers who have distinguished themselves in various places of deployment during the year 2019. The Commander also gave out gift items and cash donations to widows of fallen heroes as part of contributions from Signal Corps.
In attendance at the occasion were the Special Guest of Honour Lieutenant General TY Buratai, ably represented by Major General JO Irefin, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Commandants of military institutions, both serving and retired senior military officers from the Nigerian Armed Forces, very senior officers of Para- military agencies, Local Government Chairmen, Captains of Industries among other eminent personalities.
