The President of Urhobo Progress Union worldwide, Olorogun Moses Taiga, has called for a cessation of conflicts between Aladja, an Urhobo town in Udu Local Government Area and Ogbe-Ijoh, an Ijaw town in Warri South-West Local Government Area, all located in Delta State.
Taiga made this call against the background of the rumour of an imminent renewal of hostilities between the communities.
“These mindless killings must stop. The lives of my people are too precious to be wasted like cockroaches. Enough of bloodletting. The Urhobos and the Ijaws have lived peacefully together for centuries. All hands must be on deck to sustain this peaceful coexistence,” Taiga said.
The Urhobo Progress Union President also called on the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to release the report of the panel of enquiry into the communal crisis. Taiga believes that the release and implementation of the report by the government will help put an end to the crisis between the two communities.
