Two major strong contender for the position of the Senate President in the 9th National Assembly, Ali Ndume, and Ahmad Lawan have arrived at the premises of the federal parliament on Tuesday.
According to reports, Ndume arrived at exactly at 7:20 am and exchanged pleasantries with some of his supporters and went straight to the mosque within the premises to pray.
On the other side, Lawan entered the chamber accompanied by a large number of senators. The chamber is almost set for inauguration which is scheduled to commence by 10am.
The major contenders who stood in the race till the end are three lawmakers all from the All Progressive Congress, APC: Ali Ndume, Ahmed Lawan and Kabiru Gaya but the latter withdrew some days ago.
While the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed the candidacy of Mr Lawan; the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Congress, PDP threw its weight behind, Mr Ndume and ordered all its senators-elect to vote for him.
The winners among the candidates will be revealed in some hours’ time after an election which is scheduled to hold by 10 a.m.
Meanwhile, one remarkable dynamic as regards today’s vote is the expectations on the mode of voting – recall TheNewsGuru, TNG reported yesterday that there was a court on that ordered the National Assembly to return to its 2011 rules which provides for open ballot.
However, as at the time of filing this report, the National Assembly management has not made any announcement in regards of the court order.
