Read full statement below:
CALL FOR IMMEDIATE FORTIFICATION OF BILLBOARD STRUCTURES IN ENUGU STATE.
Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency hereby directs all owners of billboards in Enugu state to immediately fortify their weak hoardings and structures to avoid accidents.
The rainy season is setting in with heavy wind storms across the country. In the news recently is a report that “two persons were crushed to death with two other people injured when a giant billboard collapsed at Osisioma junction, Aba, Abia State. The billboard collapsed during the storm that accompanied a torrential rainfall which lasted about three hours last Wednesday”. This is sad.
Weak hoardings are a threat to people’s life and property as they may collapse any time during the rainy season and cause dangerous accidents. Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency is taking steps to prevent such accidents. While we adhere to the State Government’s directives towards curbing the spread of Coronavirus (Covid – 19) in our state, we cannot fold our hands and allow weak and poorly hoisted billboards cause accidents or kill innocent people.
This directive is a matter of human safety and we shall not hesitate to remove all weak billboard structures in the state at the owners cost should the owners delay in carrying out this directive. Weak billboard structures should be fortified at the earliest as delay is dangerous!
Please, note that this directive is regardless of the Agency’s ongoing registration processes for signage and outdoor advertisement in Enugu state.
Signed:
Ike Ezugwu rpa
