Political Appointments: Senate President under APC siege

It is now apparent from events unfolding in the Senate that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan is under the siege of the all ruling All Progressives Congress, APC over his choice of political appointees.
TNG investigations on Monday revealed that immediately the Senate president yielded under pressure to rescind the appointment of Festus Adebayo as his Special Adviser on Media, he was hijacked by the party.
It was also revealed that this development has put Lawan under unnecessary pressure as never in the history of the Senate since the appointment of aides generated so much furor.
A source privy to this development told TNG that”never in the history of this chamber at least since 1999 that mere appointment of personal aides will lead to threats.
“This is clearly an indication that Lawan is going to be a weak leader if he can’t take charge of his immediate aides then selection of committee chairmen  is going to be a Herculean task for him.

“They asked him to withdraw Adebayo’s letter and without proper consultation he just chickened out and now that his aide on social media has voluntarily resigned is that not a sign of a failing Senate president.
“Some of us are watching from the sidelines because he claimed the aides were employed based on merit.
“But immediately the party sneezed our man developed pneumonia a bad signal for the ninth Assembly.
Recall that Festus Adebayo, the Tribune’s versatile columnist was initially hired by the number 3 citizen but suddenly developed cold when party chieftains raised dust that he had criticised many party stalwarts in the past.
Within 72 hours that Adebayo’s letter was withdrawn Lawan’s aide on social media shocked him by pulling out of his media team.
