…8 crashes recorded within 4years
The House of Representatives committee on Airforce has commenced probe into the incessant Nigeria Airforce plane crashes in recent years.
Recall that the Nigerian Air Force has recorded eight crashes between 2015-2019.
It says the house is committed to ensuring support for the Airforce while also wanting to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the crashes.
The Nigerian Airforce in the past few years has been involved in series of Air crashes resulting to deaths of personnel and damage to multi-million dollars equipment of the force.
But federal lawmakers are not impressed with these negative trend as they move to unravel the immediate and remote causes of these crashes.
The House Chairman, Hon Mohammad Koko hit the ground running as he explained the reason for the investigation.
In declaring the hearing open the speaker, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila who was represented by the acting majority leader, Hon Peter Akpatason emphasised the importance of the Airforce in the protection of the nation’s Airspace.
He also promised compensation for personnel who lost their lives while harping on a full investigation into circumstances that led to these crashes.
While responding the Chief of the Air Staff , Abubakar Sadiq, commended the committee for the hearing but was also quick to point out that the Nigerian Airforce and personnel are one of the best trained and committed.
The Committee later resolved into executive session as the issues to be discussed bothers to national security.
Over eight crashes have been recorded so far since 2015 and the breakdown shows Airforce Dornier 228 crash in Kaduna in August 2015, F-7NI crash in October 2015, An Augusta Westland 101 helicopter crash in November 2016 among others.
