A group of women under the aegis of Coalition of Eastern Social-Cultural Groups Federal Capital Territory FCT Chapter on Thursday threw its weight behind the candidature of Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha in her bid as Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives.
The group comprising women of different age groups has therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC to ensure equity and justice by zoning the position of Speaker of the House to the South-East.
The group which staged a rally to press home this position in Abuja also called on the lawmakers to give a woman the opportunity of leading the House as Speaker as men had occupied the position for too long.
Leader of the group Chief Mrs Fidel Orji who led the women for the rally at the main gate of the National Assembly Abuja also addressed journalists calling on the lawmakers to vote Hon. Onyejeocha for the position of speaker of the House.
The group bore placards and chanted songs in support with of the Speakership aspiration of the fourth term lawmaker who hails from Abia State.
Some of the inscriptions on these placards read thus: “For equity and justice, we urge members of NASS to vote Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha; “PMB and APC support Hon.Lady Nkiruka Onyejeocha as Speaker House of Representatives among and other songs.
The women group also chanted solidality songs thus: “Carry go, carry go Nkiruka carry go; Nkiruka, Nkiruka, Nkiruka ka anyi ga eso, Nkiruka, Nkiruka, Nkiruka ka anyi ga eso, among other songs.
