Zimbabwe crisis: Mugabe’s wife, Grace whereabouts unknown
Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is reportedly confined to his home in Harare even as Zimbabweans await the military’s next steps.
The country’s military seized control of government on Wednesday, claiming it is targeting “criminals” around President Mugabe.
Its action followed the sacking of Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a close ally of the country’s army chief Gen Constantino Chiwenga.
Mnangagwa’s whereabouts have yet to be confirmed.
In the meantime, the BBC reports that unconfirmed reports say his wife Grace, who was bidding to succeed him as president, has fled to Namibia.
The 93-year-old Mugabe has been in power since the Southern African country gained independence from United Kingdom in 1980.
