The bride who failed to show up for her wedding ceremony on Saturday in Ondo town, Ondo State, Miss Taiwo Orimoloye, has called her parents from Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, according to a source close to the family.
Taiwo failed to show up for the church service on her wedding day, disappointing her husband to-be and many guests who attended the wedding.
Her parents and the family of the groom knew nothing about her whereabouts.
However, a resident of Christ Land area in Oka, Ondo, where the Taiwo’s parents live, on condition of anonymity disclosed that the ‘runaway’ bride had called her parents on a different telephone line, informing them of her whereabouts.
The resident said, “She has called her parents on a telephone line on Monday where she told them that she was in Osogbo. Her call, as a matter of fact has doused the tension in her family.
“Everybody in the family is now happy that she is alive hale and hearty.”
How it happened
The incident, which occurred at Ondo town in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, created confusion among guests, friends and family members. The bride’s aged mother was said to have collapsed when her daughter did not turn up for the wedding. She was rushed to the hospital.
On Friday, family members of the groom took loads of gifts to the bride’s family for the engagement. As part of plans to make the ceremony elaborate, a cow was bought by the groom on the eve of the ceremony.
The girl’s family allegedly rejected the cow, saying it was too small. A bigger cow was later presented to the family. However, there was a drama on Saturday as the bride abandoned the groom at the altar and absconded. Sources said the bride and groom were students of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo State and had dated for seven years.
The introduction of the two families took place on December 27, 2016. The families eventually fixed the engagement and wedding ceremonies for Friday and Saturday. The wedding was to be attended by important dignitaries within and outside the town. People, who visited the house of the Orimoloyes located at Christ Land area, Oka, Ondo town, said several visitors, including the monarch of Modakeke in Osun State, Oba Sikiru Ogunsua, as well as several members of a Pentecostal church from Lagos State, were waiting for the bride. A cow and several food items were under a big canopy in front of the bride’s home. Kehinde, the bride to be twin sister, was weeping profusely.
The best man said all arrangements had been concluded. He said the church service was to be held at Celestial Church of Christ, New Covenant Parish, Oka, Ondo. He said he couldn’t fathom what went wrong. One of the men in suit said all was well with the groom and the bride until the lady disappeared.
He said the bride switched off her phone lines and all attempts to reach her were futile. He added that aside the fact that Taiwo threw the family of the groom, including visitors into confusion, her disappearance on the day of the ceremony had created tension between both families.
One of the groom’s men said all seemed to be well between bride and groom. He said they would not have planned the ceremonies if there was a frosty relationship between the families or the supposedly would-be couple. At the time of filling this report, the whereabouts of the bride were still unknown. All her phones remained switched off. Later, the two families were said to have gone to the police station in Ondo town to report Taiwo’s disappearance.
