The Minister of Communication, Mr Isa Pantami on Thursday challenged the management of NIGCOMSAT to come up with innovative ways to improve service delivery.
Pantami said this at a three-day board management strategic retreat of NIGCOMSAT in Abuja with the theme: ‘Restructuring NIGCOMSAT Limited for the next level’.
According to him, the only way to support the ministry is to turn things around and make sure government realises how important this company is, in terms of commercialisation activities.
“Failure to improve the commercialisation will result to unnecessary criticism, while the debate on whether to privatise the organisation will naturally disappear,” he said.
Pantami said that all hands must be on deck to improve service delivery with specific strategic approach to commercialisation.
He said there was need for staff and management to change the perspectives and approach to issues, saying they should portray the good image of the organisation as well as be good ambassador.
“NIGCOMSAT Limited and Galaxy Backbone are companies where the orientation and approach are different.
“They are to look for customers, improve their social skills, have proper approach and profer better ways to convince customers.
“Let every employee know if they fail to deliver, they are endangering the opportunity they have and those who promote the organisation by bringing customers should be encouraged with cash or kind reward.”
Pantami said staff should be trained and retrained as well as learn marketing strategies, adding that they should not sit in the comfort of their offices and expected things to change.
He, however, said there were three keys to career success, which included performance, image and exposure, adding that exposure was 60 per cent of customer’s perception of your product.
Pantami advised the staff and management to strive to satisfy their customers through improved services and coming up with innovative ideas that could make the company more viable.
The Board Chairman, NIGCOMSAT, Mr George Moghalu said the aim of the retreat was to review the past, looking at challenges and preparing a future that would justify the confidence of the government.
“We are operating in a very competitive private sector driven environment, so it is our intention to grow the company to make it sustainable and make it very viable and to make it very competitive.
“Naturally, there are challenges but challenges are meant to be surmounted. There is the determination to surmount them and change the story of NIGCOMSAT,” he said.
The Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT, Ms Abimbola Alale said the Board was expected to come up with implementable resolutions and strategic action plan.
” We are transforming the way we operate to continually improve our ability to achieve
quality of service.
“Our employees and partners have continued to meet challenges on the field and excel despite setbacks; we should all be very proud of where we are today and excited about where we are headed.
‘We should use this retreat to learn, unlearn and relearn. Learn new ways of doing things in NigComSat, removing unproductive ventures and activities,” she said.
