The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami on Tuesday commissioned an IT innovation and incubation centre, situated in the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Pantami said this was in line with the blueprint of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy to bridge the digital literacy gap in Nigeria and foster the growth of a digital economy in line with global best practices.
The IT innovation and incubation centre is among the various intervention projects of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), an agency under the supervision of the Minister.
The centre, conceptualized by the Minister during his tenure as the Chief Information Technology Officer of Nigeria, was built to serve the South-South region of the country and more importantly, the host institutions which has students drawn from various parts of Nigeria, according to the Ministry.
According to the Ministry, the move was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration agenda of fostering the growth of ICT innovation and entrepreneurship, enhancing wealth creation and bridging the poverty gap.
In his remarks, the Minister reminded the gathering that during the eNigeria 2019 Conference held last month in Abuja, President Buhari launched and unveiled the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy with the sole vision to have a Digital Nigeria in place.
Dr Pantami stated that similar IT Innovation centres will be established across the country so that digital skills will be provided to teeming Nigerian youths in order to enhance their disruptive ideas.
