‘Local solutions to industry challenges is key policy of Buhari’s administration’
Finding local solutions to industry challenges is a key policy of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said.
TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports Professor Danbatta made this known while delivering the keynote address at the Emerging Technologies Research and ICT Innovation Forum organized by the NCC, which is being held in Kano on 14th and 15th August, 2019.
“It is a fact that finding local solutions to the challenges of the industry is a key policy of the present administration,” Danbatta said, adding: “And we acknowledge that Kano State has been one of the states at the forefront of technology innovation in the country”.
The NCC boss stated that the ICT Innovation Forum has become necessary to promote local content with emphasis on the tech ecosystem, identifying unmet needs and facilitating Public Private Partnerhship (PPP).
“Based on this premise, we have themed our forum “Developing Nigeria’s Tech Eco-System: Imperative for improving Local Content”. With growing pressure of globalization, every govt & captains of industry are charged with finding ways to ensure fulfilling local demand.
“Whereas Operators have developed infrastructure for voice and data services, it has become expedient for them to unlock new services and sources of value generation in their operations, by providing communication solutions to education, health, government services, etc.
“The NCC seeks to encourage tech entrepreneurship and innovation in the ICT sector, and has embarked on visitation to various tech startups across the 6 zones to assess devt & challenges. We intend to assist the various tech hubs with the right regulatory intervention,” Danbatta said.
